Born on May 11, 1947, in Dedham, Massachusetts, Joe was the son of Marjorie Herbert Manning and Joseph F. Manning Sr. Throughout his life, he was known for his kindness, work ethic, and love for family. Joe was a dedicated marine mechanic for over 45 years, working in Scituate and Quincy, MA. His career reflected his lifelong passion for the water and boats. As a young man, he enjoyed water skiing, tubing, and speed racing in Plymouth. His happiest moments often centered around his home on Island Grove Pond, which he cherished as his sanctuary.
He took pride in maintaining his yard and creating a welcoming outdoor space, where he found peace and joy. A devoted family man, Joe’s greatest happiness came from his loved ones. His wife, Rebecca Mitchell Manning, was his lifelong partner, and together they shared a bond rooted in love and mutual respect. His daughters—Jodi-Lyn Manning of Springfield, Megan Pybus and her husband TJ of North Andover, Kathleen Mahoney and her husband Ryan of Hanson, and Andrea Novello and Michael of Gloucester brought him immense pride. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Benjamin, Calleigh, Johnny, Brody, Conor, Charlotte, James, Joey, and Jaxson. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them, passing down lessons of kindness, hard work, and family values.
Joe’s family memories include camping trips, outdoor adventures, and holiday traditions, especially his role as Santa Claus at Christmas, which brought magic and joy to his loved ones. A talented woodworker, he enjoyed creating beautiful pieces from simple wood, demonstrating patience and craftsmanship. Whether repairing, building, or enjoying nature, Joe approached life with a hardworking spirit, a generous heart, and a passion for sharing his skills. He is survived by his sister, Carol Barber, and her husband Charles, as well as his niece Rachele Hunsinger. Joe’s legacy is one of love, strength, and dedication. His kindness, work ethic, and devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life at a visitation on Wednesday, June 24th, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman, MA. A service will follow at 7 p.m. at the same location.
