Dr. Jason R, Powell Obituary, 46 Years Old Resident of Jesup, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, after a long battle with illness. His life was marked by dedication to his family, faith, and education, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.Born on November 12, 1979, to Carroll and Jeanette Roberts-Powell, Jason grew up in Jesup and was a proud member of the Wayne County public school system. He graduated with his high school class in 1998, showcasing his early commitment to learning. Driven by a passion for healthcare, Jason furthered his education at Middle Georgia College before transferring to Georgia Southern University. There, he earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master’s Degree, demonstrating his dedication to advancing his knowledge and skills.
Not stopping there, Jason pursued and obtained a Doctorate Degree from Liberty University, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to education and personal growth. His academic achievements reflected his desire to serve others, particularly in the field of nursing and healthcare.Beyond his academic pursuits, Jason was deeply rooted in his faith and community. He was a lifelong member of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as the Minister of Music. His musical talent was a gift he shared generously, blessing the congregation with heartfelt performances that touched many lives.Jason’s life was also centered around his family. He leaves behind his loving parents, Carroll and Jeanette Powell, Sr., of Jesup. His children, Jamianee Powell and Jason Powell Jr. of Statesboro, Ga., Octaviuna “Mia” Hartzog of Dacula, Ga., Cameron Depew of Sumpter, SC, and Jacie Powell of Jesup, cherish his memory.
He is also survived by his brothers, Pastor Dwayne Roberts (Elizabeth) of Augusta, Ga., and Carroll Powell Jr. of Waycross, Ga., as well as his sisters Charlene Thompson of Charlotte, NC, and Darlene Holland (James) of Phoenix, Arizona. His special aunt, Darline Mobley, along with a host of other relatives and friends, will deeply miss him. A visitation honoring Jason will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 5-8 pm at Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church. His funeral service will take place at the same church on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 am, with interment at Jesup City Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed for those who wish to participate remotely.
