Brett peacefully left this life at his residence in Murray, Kentucky, on July 1, 2026, after 21 years of unwavering service, leaving behind a legacy of commitment, courage, and compassion. Brett’s journey in law enforcement began in 1999 when he joined the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, demonstrating an early dedication to serving his community. His passion for justice and public safety led him to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office before he answered the call to join the Kentucky State Police in 2005, graduating from KSP Cadet Class 85.

Throughout his distinguished career, Brett exemplified the qualities of a true public servant, working tirelessly in various roles including trooper, detective, squad sergeant, detective sergeant, and canine sergeant each position reflecting his versatility and steadfastness. Over the years, Brett earned numerous accolades recognizing his exceptional skill and dedication. In 2013, he was honored as the Post 1 Detective of the Year, a testament to his investigative expertise and relentless pursuit of justice. The following year, he was named the statewide KSP Detective of the Year, highlighting his outstanding contributions to law enforcement across Kentucky. His leadership and commitment made a lasting impact on colleagues and community members alike.

Brett’s unwavering commitment extended beyond his duties; he was known for his kindness, integrity, and willingness to mentor others. His colleagues remember him as a dependable and compassionate officer who always put others before himself. His service reflected not only his professional excellence but also his deep-rooted desire to make his community a safer, better place. He is survived by his devoted parents, David and Meredith Miller of Murray, KY; his brothers, Matthew Miller of Murray and Michael (Brandy) Miller of Houston, Texas; his beloved nephew, David (Allison) Miller of Covington, KY; and his cherished niece, Allison Miller of Murray.

Brett was also a proud dog owner, especially fond of his retired K9 partner, Baxi, who was a loyal companion and a symbol of Brett’s commitment to service.
